What is a master certificate?

The online master certificate program is a comprehensive professional development series covering the most critical subject areas in business and management today. What is an advanced master certificate?

Designed for professionals, executives and entrepreneurs with a solid understanding of core business principles, Tulane’s Advanced Master Certificate in Business Strategies offers a deep-dive into today’s most important business topics. The program is comprised of three of Tulane’s four advanced strategy classes – Advanced Management Strategy, Advanced Marketing Strategy, Advanced HR Strategy or Advanced Finance Strategy – enabling students to create a curriculum that is ideally suited to their individual interests and needs.

How long does it take to complete each course?

The total estimated completion time for each certificate program is approximately 25-30 hours, including up to 12 hours of streaming video presentation plus independent exercises and mastery exams.

Is there a time limit that I must complete a course within?

Yes. You have eight weeks to complete each certificate course. Students who complete all three certificate courses in a master program will receive a Master Certificate in Business/Management, Master Certificate in Business/Marketing, Master Certificate in Business/HR Management or Master Certificate in Business/Finance.

What kind of materials will I receive?

You will receive a set of video CD-ROMs and a study guide to complement the lecture materials. The video CDs are provided to ensure that you will be able to see the video lectures regardless of your Internet connection speed. If you have a broadband connection, please try the streaming video option first. If your connection speed is under 56K, or if you wish to view the videos offline, you may use the CD option.

What is Online Faculty Support? What type of interaction can I expect from this program?

Online faculty support offers extended interaction with program faculty and classmates through virtual office hours, faculty-monitored chat rooms, message boards and email, ensuring an engaging and rewarding educational experience. Will I have assignments or exams?

At the end of each course, there will be an “open book” set of questions you must answer online before receiving your certificate. Move at your own pace and review the lectures and study guide materials as many times as you want – the materials are yours, so take your time!

Is there any credit given for completing a master certificate?

Upon completion of each eight-week certificate course, you will be awarded 4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business.

Can I earn college credit for completing a master certificate?

Some of Tulane’s online courses qualify for college credit through the American Council on Education; see below for details. In addition, you will earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for all courses, so you may be eligible for tuition assistance from your company. Contact your company’s Human Resources Department to confirm whether their tuition assistance policy covers continuing education programs.

Which courses are recommended for college credit with ACE?

The American Council on Education (ACE) has recommended the following Tulane online certificate courses for college credit: Business Essentials I, Business Essentials II, Advanced Management Strategy and Advanced Marketing Strategy. Advanced HR Strategy and Advanced Finance Strategy have not yet been evaluated/approved for college credit recommendation by ACE.

What is ACE? How does ACE benefit students in Tulane’s online programs?

The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for four of Tulane University’s online courses. The American Council on Education, the major coordinating body for all the nation’s higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research and program initiatives.

Benefits to Tulane University online students include:

Will my school accept ACE credits?

ACE credits give you the ability to either transfer earned credits to an accepting university or apply them to educational or training programs. Universities accept ACE credit recommendations based on their own policies and requirements and should be contacted regarding the transferability of any credit hour earned. Does Tulane accept these credits?

These professional development programs were developed with Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business based on the same information and instruction found in existing degree programs but have been repackaged as open-enrollment certificate programs and are not currently part of any formal degree curriculum at Tulane. Tulane does not accept these credits because there are currently no existing classes in any degree curricula that exactly match these professional development programs.

What should I do to obtain ACE credits for my Tulane online certificate course?

Students wishing to earn ACE credit will be required to take a proctored exam for each course. The steps follow:

    Step 1 – Pay the additional administrative fee of $100 for each course that you desire ACE credits for.
    Step 2 – Request a proctor selection form.
    Step 3 – Return the completed forms.
    Step 4 – Take the exam and return the forms identified to be filled out. There is an additional one-time $35 fee that ACE will require for registry to be initiated.

Note: Transcripts are $35 for the first and $10 each additional. Transcripts will be sent directly to the university or employer.
